NPFL25: Nasarawa United Claim Impressive Away Win at Ikorodu City

Nasarawa United secured a thrilling 2-1 victory against Ikorodu City in Week 4 of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season.

The match was played at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, Ikorodu City’s home ground, making Nasarawa United’s win an impressive away victory.

Last week’s home loss to El-Kanemi Warriors in Lafia seemed to fuel Nasarawa United’s determination. They started strong, dictating the pace of the game.

However, Ikorodu City responded valiantly as the first half drew to a close. ThankGod Chilaka scored a historic goal for Ikorodu City in the 45+3 minute, equalizing the match.

The second half saw both teams pushing hard for the win. Nasarawa United maintained their momentum and found the decisive goal in the 64th minute when Kabir Balogun capitalized on a defensive error.

Balogun’s goal put Nasarawa United ahead 2-1, and despite Ikorodu City’s relentless efforts, they couldn’t reclaim the equalizer.

This loss marks Ikorodu City’s second consecutive home defeat, following their 1-0 loss to Rangers of Enugu just four days prior. The back-to-back home losses will test the team’s resilience.

After the match, Balogun expressed satisfaction with the victory, saying, “We knew we had to fight for every ball. This win gives us the confidence to keep pushing for more points.” Anas Yusuf added, “Scoring first was important for us. It set the tone”.
