Gusau/Ahlan Cup: Nasarawa Attorney General Hails Sponsors, Lauds Governor Sule’s Support
Nasarawa State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Isaac Danladi, has showered commendations on the key sponsors and stakeholders of the ongoing Gusau/Ahlan Cup 2025 during a visit to the tournament venue in Lafia.
Danladi, who served as the pioneer chairman when the competition was formerly known as the Ahlan Cup, expressed deep satisfaction with how the tournament has evolved over the years. He singled out the duo of Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and Dr. Rabiu Sheriff Inuwa Ahlan, NFF Board Member and Chairman of Kano State Football Association, for their relentless efforts in driving football development in Northern Nigeria.
“Honestly, I’m delighted to see how far this competition has come. When we started, it wasn’t anything close to what we’re witnessing today. I happened to be the first chairman of the Ahlan Cup, a role I held for nearly two years, and we were intentional about keeping the vision alive,” Danladi said.
“So I must use this opportunity to appreciate Ibrahim Gusau, a friend and brother, and Dr. Rabiu Sheriff Inuwa Ahlan, a strong ally and pillar of grassroots football. They’ve done remarkably well in promoting the growth of the game in the region.”
He also extended heartfelt appreciation to the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, His Excellency, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, for graciously accepting to host the prestigious pre-season championship in the state.
“Let me sincerely thank my Principal, Mentor, and Benefactor, His Excellency Engineer Abdullahi Sule, for granting approval for Nasarawa State to host this tournament. It’s a clear indication of the premium he places on sports development, particularly football.”
Danladi further acknowledged the efforts of the Nasarawa State FA Chairman, whom he described as a committed administrator who has worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth running of the competition.
“When I arrived at the stadium, I was impressed by the caliber of individuals present. It felt like homecoming seeing many familiar faces, including the Chairman of Nasarawa United, who has always held the fort for the club.”
According to him, the competition’s value goes beyond just winning or losing.
“Whether you win or lose, it’s all good because the essence of this championship is preparation. Interestingly, the very year Nasarawa United didn’t win in Kano, they went on to play on the continent. Ironically, the year they won it, they battled relegation until some of us stepped in.”
“So, it’s not just about lifting the trophy—this tournament is a platform to shape teams for a successful season ahead. That’s the true goal. And while I won’t be selfish, I know exactly who I’m rooting for,” he joked, rounding off his remarks with a smile.
Danladi confirmed that he plans to stay till the end of the competition, reiterating his firm belief that the Gusau/Ahlan Cup has come to stay.
