Federal Ministry of Education Crowned Champions at 5th FEDUGAM in Lafia

The Federal Ministry of Education has emerged overall champion of the 5th Edition of the Federal Education Sector Games (FEDUGAM), amassing 19 gold, 18 silver, and 8 bronze medals.

The six-day sporting fiesta, held in Lafia, featured 22 agencies competing in 13 disciplines, including volleyball, badminton, athletics, chess, darts, table tennis, and football.

Declaring the Games closed at the Lafia City Stadium, Minister of Education, Dr. Morufu Olatunji Alausa — represented by Prof. Ibrahim Ogiri Hassan of the Federal University of Lafia — praised all participating agencies for demonstrating true sportsmanship. He noted that the event significantly enhanced participants’ physical, mental, and even spiritual well-being, underscoring the value of sports in fostering healthy and productive communities.

Chairman of the Main Organising Committee, Dr. Saeed Yusuf — represented by his deputy, Mr. Olapade Sulieman — commended both athletes and officials for their dedication to the success of the Games, while applauding the Minister for providing an enabling environment for sports development within the sector.

Nasarawa State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Yakubu Kwanta, represented by Director of Administration and Supply, Helen Madaki, assured participants of the state’s readiness to host more tournaments in the future.

In the final medal table, the Ministry of Education claimed first place (19 gold, 18 silver, 8 bronze), followed by NECO in second place (13 gold, 17 silver, 17 bronze), and UBEC in third (3 gold, 3 silver, 8 bronze). Edo State will host the 6th edition of FEDUGAM.
