Nasarawa To Host Landmark Education Summit As NSUBEB Inaugurates High-Powered Planning Committee

Continuing with his bold steps to transform the basic education landscape of Nasarawa State, the Executive Chairman of the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB), Dr. Kassim Muhammad Kassim, has inaugurated a high-level committee to plan an all-encompassing educational summit.

While inaugurating the committee at the board’s headquarters in Lafia, Dr. Kassim revealed that the initiative has received the full backing of Governor Abdullahi Sule, who granted approval for the summit. The event is expected to serve as a platform for stakeholders to engage in deep conversations and chart a new course for the basic education sector in the state.

Dr. Kassim noted that members of the committee were carefully selected based on their track record, professional integrity, and commitment to educational development. He expressed confidence in their ability to deliver a credible and impactful outcome.

Responding on behalf of the committee, Chairman Mr. Allahnana Attah, the NSUBEB Permanent Member I, described the composition of the team as a sign of the seriousness attached to the summit. He assured the Board that the committee would leave no stone unturned in delivering a summit that will reposition basic education in the state.

The committee includes three Co-chairmen: Hon. Abel Bala, Chairman of the House Committee on Education; Mr. Muhammed Bala, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education; and Hon. Safiyanu Isa Andaha, Chairman of Akwanga Local Government and current Chairman of ALGON in Nasarawa State.

Other members include Hajiya Fatima Ahmed (Permanent Member II, NSUBEB), Hon. Ogaji Keana (Permanent Member III), Hajiya Hasiya Ahmed (Board Secretary), Mrs. Laraba Ejim (Director of Training), Dr. James Aguma (Director of Academic Planning), and Hajiya Khadijat Suleiman (Director of Quality Assurance).

Also on the list are Ibrahim Danjuma (Chairman of Education Secretaries), as well as representatives from the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the National Safe School Response, and the AGILE Project.

Additional members include the President of the National Association of Nasarawa State Students, Rt. Hon. Shuaibu Sani (SSA to the Governor on Youth and Student Affairs), Mr. Linus Oota (Chairman’s Media Office), and Mr. Dan Yakubu of the Ministry of Information. Zaki David Makama, Director of Administration and Supply at NSUBEB, will serve as Secretary of the committee.

The committee has been given a two-week deadline to submit its report to the Executive Chairman.

If successfully organized, the education summit could serve as a catalyst for reforming policies, improving infrastructure, and strengthening learning outcomes across Nasarawa’s public schools. It promises to attract experts, policymakers, and development partners who can collectively provide lasting solutions to challenges facing the basic education sector in the State.
