Nasarawa Governor’s Cup Draw Set for November 25th

The Nasarawa State Football Association (NSFA) has officially scheduled the draw for the 2025 Governor’s Cup for Tuesday, November 25th. The event, which marks a significant date in the state’s grassroots football calendar, will take place at the NSFA office within the Lafia City Stadium, starting at 11:00 AM. This year’s edition will feature 13 local government teams competing for the prestigious title.

The draw ceremony is mandatory for all participating teams, with all 13 local government football council chairmen and their respective sports secretaries expected to be in attendance. Beyond the pairing of teams, this gathering will serve a crucial logistical function. It has been emphasized that the event is designed to ensure all administrative requirements are met before the tournament begins.

A key highlight of the draw day will be the distribution of kits and necessary licenses to the teams. According to Alhaji Ibrahim Adamu Shigafarta, the NSFA Head of Competition and Vice Chairman, the association has arranged to distribute customized jerseys and equipment to every participating squad. Additionally, all essential administrative tasks, including player registration and match officials’ accreditation, will be finalized on the same day to ensure a smooth start to the tournament.

The competition is set to be intense, with the Lafia Local Government team returning as the defending champions. They secured the 2024 crown in a hard-fought final against Nasarawa LG, setting a high benchmark for the 2025 competition. The anticipation is already building among fans and communities eager to see if Lafia can repeat their success or if a new challenger will emerge victorious.

The NSFA Vice Chairman, Shigafarta, expressed delight at the enthusiastic response from the local government councils, underscoring the tournament’s broader goals: nurturing talent, promoting unity, and showcasing Nasarawa State’s sporting spirit. He also extended gratitude to the Governor’s Office and the relevant Ministries for their continued support, urging all stakeholders to rally around what promises to be an exhilarating display of local football prowess.
