Bassa Community Commends Efforts By Governor Sule To End Communal Clashes
Bassa community under the aegis of the Bassa Cultural and Development Union (BCDU) has commended the Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule for his efforts towards bringing an end to the perennial communal clashes that have plagued their area in Toto Local Government Area of the State.
One of such actions being appreciated by the BCDU is setting up a high-powered committee headed by the Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage (Rtd), for the reconciliation warring communities and the return of some of the persons displaced by the crises that have hit Toto Local Government Area of the State.
In a statement signed by the BCDU Chairman, Emmanuel Gbaji, the community expressed confidence in the ability of the committee to resolve any pending issues.
“We have always believed in dialogue as the best option out of any crisis. The Bassa/Egbura people have for years lived together as neighbors and had a lot of things in common.
“Therefore, the crisis in Toto labeled Bassa/Egbura crisis can only be resolved through dialogue.
“The chairman of the committee, the Emir of Lafia, His Royal Highness Hon. Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad is a very high profile individual in delivery a given assignment like this.
“It will be recalled that in 2022 former President Muhammadu Buhari appointed him Chairman National Merit Award, an assignment he executed excellently and was commended by Nigerians for a job well done.
“Therefore, undoubtedly (BCDU) has confidence that the royal father will execute this important given assignment of reconciliation and dialogue between the Bassa and the Egbura communities.
“The members of the committee and the stake holders that will be involved should give the royal father maximum support to carry out this noble assignment.
“Once again, we commend Governor Abdullahi A. Sule, the man exceeding all expectations for the bold step taken in setting this high powered committee.
“As stated in our previous press releases, the Union expresses its deepest sympathy to the families of the victims as a result of the recurrence of the Toto crisis.
“Indeed, the Toto crisis is totally worrisome and we believe the Justice’s Bage committee will find a lasting solution of the Bassa and Egbura crisis.”
