Nasarawa Assembly Assures Of Enhanced Synergy With LG  Chairmen For Grassroots Development

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly (NSHA) Committee on Local Government, Community Development and Chieftaincy Affairs, has assured of its continued determination to synergize with Chairmen of the 13 Local Government Areas of the State in order to fashion out ways to enhance grassroots development in the State.

Hon. Musa Ibrahim Abubakar (APC – Doma South) the Chairman of the committee gave the assurance while briefing newsmen after the committee meeting today (January 24, 2025) in Lafia.

He said that the committee slated today Friday for its meeting with Chairmen of the 13 Local Government Areas but the meeting could not hold due to apology from the Chairmen.


Hon. Musa said that the committee meeting with the Chairmen has been rescheduled to Monday next week.

“As you can see, we are supposed to hold a meeting with the Chairmen of 13 Local Government Areas today.

“But ALGON and the Chairmen sent us apology that they are presently attending a workshop in Akwanga.

“We will meet with them on Monday next week to discuss some issues for grassroots development” he said.

Hon. Musa disclosed that the committee would soon embark on oversight functions to Local Government Areas across the State.

“The Chairmen have been elected and sworn in for about two months now.

“We will embark on oversight function to local government areas at the end of this month to ascertain what they are doing.

“We want to know what they have been able to achieve so far in view of what is coming into their local government accounts.

“As the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended has empowered us to oversight the activities of the local government areas” he said.

The committee chairman also assured of its continued commitment to ensure improved welfare of the people at the grassroots.

Earlier, Hon. Safiyanu Isa Andaha, the ALGON Chairman and Chairman, Akwanga LGA, appreciated the committee for supporting the activities of local government areas in the state.

He apologized for their inability to attend today’s meeting with the committee.

“I am here on behalf of the 13 Local Government Areas to tender our apology for our inability to attend today’s meeting.

“The Chairmen of the 13 local government areas are presently attending a sensitization workshop in Akwanga.

“We are sorry, please forgive us for our inability to attend today’s meeting” he said.

The ALGON Chairman assured the committee of their obedience, loyalty and commitment to their duties.

“We are very obedient, loyal and committed to our duties.

“We will work together with you for grassroots development” the ALGON Chairman said.
