‘Why I Stepped Down For Hon. Juliana Esla Dauda’ – Former SDP Candidate
Former candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) for Lafia North State Constituency in the 2023 General Elections, Hon. John Angbas Alu has said that he stepped down from the contest to allow Hon. Juliana Esla Dauda take his place because he has seen that the people are behind her.
Hon. John Angbas Alu stated this at the formal declaration by Hon. Juliana Esla Dauda as the SDP Candidate for Lafia North State Constituency in the 2023 General Elections which held in Lafia on Wednesday (January 25, 2023).
According to the former candidate, he has seen that the electorates of Lafia North State Constituency are behind Hon. Juliana Esla Dauda and since he was not in the contest for his selfish interest, he decided to bow to the will of the people.
He said SDP as the party for the people, will always promote the interest of the masses unlike the other political parties that promote the interest of a few power brokers.
In her remarks at the event, Hon. Juliana Esla Dauda said she left the APC because she was not treated fairly.
Hon. Juliana Esla Dauda who was previously the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abdullahi Sule, alleged that although she won the primary elections, she was denied the APC ticket because of her gender.
She said: “I won my election. Everybody knows that I won it. But because I am a woman… They took me to court because a woman cannot rule over them and now they have hijacked the ticket.
“I have laboured in that party. I am always with the electorate and they have always been proud of me because of what I have been doing and what they feel I will do for them if I get into the State Assembly.”
According to Hon. Juliana Esla Dauda, she had to succumb to pressure from the masses hence her movement from the APC to SDP where she is now the candidate.
Also speaking, Hassan Usman who represented Hon. Sarki Dahiru the member representing Lafia/Obi Federal Constituency, described the coming of Hon. Juliana Esla Dauda as a great addition to the SDP and called on the people of Nasarawa State to vote SDP candidates in the forthcoming election.
