We Need More Health Facilities, Roads – Esu Karu To Governor Sule

The Esu Karu and Chairman Karu Local Government Traditional Council of Chiefs, Pharmacist Luka Panya Baba has told the Governor of Nasarawa State, Engineer Abdullahi Sule that the people of his domain are in dire need of good road networks and more health facilities.

He said this when the Governor stopped by the palace of the Esu Karu while on his tour of the 13 Local Government Areas of Nasarawa State as part of activities marking the second anniversary of the current administration.

Describing Karu Local Government as the most populous in Nasarawa State, the royal father said many of the hitherto rural areas in the Local Government have become urbanized but the road network linking these communities are in a deplorable state. He then pleaded with the Governor to come to the aid of residents.

On the state of health facilities and healthcare delivery in Karu, the Esu Karu said: “Giving the population and the kind of healthcare institutions we have I think everybody here will agree with us that Karu Local Government is very, very inadequately supplied with medical facilities.

“The only facility we have here Your Excellency, is the Mararaba Medical Centre which is already overwhelmed by people from Nyanya. In fact, the major part of the FCT including Old Karu, Kurudu, all of them visit the Mararaba Medical Centre. Therefore, the majority of the people of this State do not have the opportunity to benefit maximally from that.”

He suggested that some of the facilities already available, specifically the Youth Friendly Centre, be considered for upgrade to the status of a general hospital. This he said, will reduce the pressure on the Mararaba Medical Centre to provide better service to the people.

The royal father also called for the filling of the vacant stools that exist in the traditional institution in his domain. This according to him, will go a long way to take care of the huge population in the area especially the security challenges.

He gave example with the Aso District which is closest to Abuja. He said: “Presently in Aso, Your Excellency, we don’t have a District Head, we don’t have a Village Head. The only traditional stool that is occupied in the entire Aso District is that of the Village Head of Nyanya-Gwandara. You can see the lacuna.”

The royal father appreciated the Governor for taking time midway through his first term in office to go round, meet the people to thank them and hear from them what could be done better.

He commended the Governor for the many programs and projects he has embarked upon for the good of the people including the ultramodern motor park in Karu which according to him is going to sanitize the terrible traffic in the Karu-Abuja corridor.
