Victor Elias was the hero for Lafia-based FC Basira as his brilliance in goal secured their first-ever NNL ticket against Family Worship Center (FWC) FC in Jos.

The game, played at the New Jos Stadium, saw FC Basira draw first blood in the 64th minute when defender Emmanuel Iliya scored from the spot after the referee spotted an infringement in FWC FC’s danger zone.

Family Worship Center (FWC) FC responded four minutes later, with Joseph Oko guiding home his shot to even the scores. The game ended in a score draw, and a winner had to be decided by penalties.

Victor Elias stopped two FWC FC penalties, while FC Basira lost one, giving them a 4-3 victory in the shootout.

The Nasarawa State FA Chairman, who was in attendance with some of his board members, congratulated FC Basira on their historic feat. “I want to congratulate FC Basira on qualifying for the second tier of Nigerian football,” he said.

The Chairman acknowledged that the journey wasn’t easy but expressed pride in the team’s achievement. He also promised continued support for the team as they aim higher.

FC Basira becomes the first private team from Nasarawa State to play in the NNL since the extinction of Aklosendi International FC.
