Super Eagles Get New Helmsman: Éric Chelle Appointed Head Coach
The Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) Executive Committee has endorsed the appointment of Mr. Éric Sékou Chelle as the new Head Coach of the Super Eagles. This decision was made after the NFF Technical and Development Sub-Committee recommended Chelle for the position.
The recommendation was made at the Sub-Committee’s meeting in Abuja on Thursday, 2nd January 2025. The Executive Committee subsequently endorsed this recommendation on Tuesday, 7th January 2025.
Chelle, a former coach of Mali’s senior men’s national team, boasts an impressive coaching resume. He has managed clubs such as GS Consolat, FC Martigues, Boulogne, and MC Oran. Since 2022, Chelle has been the Head Coach of Mali’s national team.
Under Chelle’s guidance, Mali’s Aiglons had a notable performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals in Cote d’Ivoire. They narrowly lost to the hosts and eventual winners, Cote d’Ivoire, with a 2-1 score after extra time.
Chelle’s appointment is effective immediately, and he will be responsible for leading the Super Eagles to secure a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup finals. His first challenge will be the next round of matches (Matchdays 5 & 6) scheduled for March.
