Stop Discrimination Of Those Diagnosed With Tuberculosis
The Nasarawa State Coordinator of Breakthrough Action Nigeria (BA-N), Mr. Thomas Ohobu has called on Nigerians to stop the discrimination of those diagnosed with tuberculosis and encourage them to get treatment.
Ohobu stated this during the recently concluded National TB testing week organized by the National Tuberculosis and Leprosy Control Program in collaboration with other development partners.
According to him, tuberculosis is not a death sentence but rather it is curable and preventable.
He went further to disclose that tuberculosis tests and treatment remain free of charge in Nigeria .
On his part, Dr. Daniel Nze the Program Manager of KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation, while stating the need for knowing one’s TB status, said reduce in activities, loss of appetite, swelling of neck, night fever and weight loss are some of the signs of tuberculosis.
Beneficiaries of the free TB testing and treatment applauded the organisers for the kind gesture.
For the National TB Testing Week in Nasarawa State, ad-hoc TB testing centres were established at strategic locations in various Local Government Areas of the State thus bringing the campaign against tuberculosis to the doorsteps of the people.
