Science Minister set to unveil first Nigerian-made ventilator
Nigeria’s Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnnaya Onu, is set to unveil the first made-in-Nigeria ventilator.
The ventilator was produced by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI).
A notice by NASENI spokesman, Segun Ayeoyenikan, on Monday, disclosed that Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, would unveil the devices on Tuesday (April 7, 2020).
Since the first case of COVID-19 was reported in Nigeria, there have been concerns expressed on the lack of necessary health infrastructure to fight an outbreak of the disease. The ventilator is one of such important equipment.
Yesterday, a Nigerian virologist called on the Nigerian government to begin to look inwards in search for solutions. This development however little, is a step in the right direction is aimed at combating the COVID-19 disease in the country.
NASENI has equally produced mobile sprayers, which are to be used to disinfect Nigerian cities and homes.
