Reactions Trail Supreme Court Judgment In Nasarawa State Governorship Election

As expected, reactions have trailed the judgment by the Supreme Court which affirmed Engr. Abdullahi Sule as the winner of the Nasarawa State Governorship Election which held March 18, 2023.

Soon after the declaration of the Supreme Court, people suspected to be supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took to the streets of Lafia, particularly Jos Road to express their displeasure.

As a result, Jos Road, which is the major express road in the state capital was completely blocked as the protesters set fire to tyres thereby forcing motorists and other commuters to take alternative routes.

As at the time of filing this report, a combine team of security personnel including the police and army have moved to the site of the protest in order to stem any further breakdown in law and order.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau has described the Supreme Court victory of Gov. Abdullahi Sule as the victory for the people of Nasarawa State.

Speaker Jatau stated this while reacting to the Supreme Court Judgement in Abuja today.

He said the verdict was a clear manifestation of the people’s mandate given to Gov. Abdullahi Sule during the general election in the State.

He called on the opposition especially Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that challenged the result of the election in court, to join hands with Governor Abdullahi Sule to build Nasarawa State of the people’s dream.

The Speaker also called on all citizens of the State irrespective of their political, religious and ethnic differences to support and joined hand with the government of the day under Engr. Abdullahi Sule to deliver on his mandate.

He assured of the 7th Assembly under his watch to give the Governor all the necessary support to succeed.

In another reaction, the Nasarawa State chapter of the Keffi Old Boys Association (KOBA) has hailed the verdict of the Supreme Court affirming Governor Abdullahi Sule’s victory.

This was contained in a statement signed by Architect Umar Shitu, the President of KOBA in Nasarawa State.

KOBA described the judgment as a victory for democracy and expressed their readiness to support and partner with the government of Engr. Abdullahi Sule especially with his interventions in the education sector of the State.
