Politicians Mostly Responsible For Nigerian Judges’ Woes, Says Nasarawa Attorney-General

Nasarawa State Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Assoc. Prof. Abdulkarim Abubakar Kana has decried the way some politicians have reduced Nigerian Judges to nothing.
The Attorney-General made the lamentation when a group, Civil Rights Anti-Corruption World Initiative (CRAWI) paid him a courtesy visit at the headquarters of the State Ministry of Justice in Lafia Friday (September 10, 2021).
The Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Barr. Isaac Ijiwo Edoh who stood in for the Commissioner of Justice blamed the recent conflicting judgements delivered by some Judges in the country to the activities of desperate politicians.
“The issue is that, some of the judicial officers…, just last week we had about 6 to 7 State Chief Judges that were invited by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, because of the conflicting judgements and exparte”.
He quoted an Hausa adage as saying that, “biri ya yi kama da mutum, adding that, even if you didn’t collect anything as a bribe, by giving such judgement, you are giving the public impression that something might have gone wrong.
“Because, if you are a High Court Judge and I am a High Court Judge, by our profession, we are of the same jurisdiction. You cannot sit on an appeal over my case.
“If I gave a judgement that someone is not happy with it, he should go to Court of Appeal, from there to Supreme Court, not to go to High Court that is having the same jurisdiction, whither in Nasarawa State, Ebonyi or Katsina.
“That is what they are doing, and politicians have reduced some of our judges to nothing.
“And even the insecurity we are facing, some of them have hands in it”.
He then called on the politicians to desist engaging youths as political thugs with fire arms.
He said, as 2023 is fast approaching, there is need for all politicians to play the game according to the rules, devoid of confrontations on their opponents.
