Philanthropist Constructs Double Box Culvert To Link Communities In Wakama, Nassarawa Eggon
A philanthropist by name Dr. Samuel Akawu Anzaku has constructed a double box culvert in Angwan Sabo of Wakama District in Nassarawa Eggon Local Government Area.
The double box culvert which will serve as a link between the Angwan Sabo community and the Ola Hospital Road in Wakama, was commissioned on Thursday (January 25, 2024) by the President of the Eggon Cultural and Development Association (ECDA), Mr. Mandy David Abuluya.
Performing the commissioning, the ECDA President showered encomiums on the donor, Dr. Samuel Akawu Anzaku for always having his people at heart.
He said: “I know Dr. Samuel Akawu Anzaku did not do this project because he has a lot of money. He did it because he saw something his community needed and he decided to meet the need.
“I heard somebody saying there is a similar need close to his house. I agree that there are many of such projects all around our communities. That is why as ECDA President, I have always encouraged our people who have the means to do this kind of gesture in their communities. If all of us have this kind of mentality, little by little, we will see some of our needs as a community being met.”
Also agreeing with the ECDA President, the District Head of Wakama, Chief Adams Maka Nangba commended Dr. Anzaku to also initiate such projects so that the problems being faced by the community will be taken care of one after the other.
In his remarks at the event, Dr. Samuel Anzaku narrated how the idea of the project came to his mind.
“It all started as a dream when the idea of this street came to my mind as I woke up on the fateful day of New Year, 1st January 2024. I took a walk in the evening and met it in shambles and no longer motorable. It was an eyesore as a deep gully had developed completely making it impossible to get across either ends thereby setting the neighbouring houses apart over some decades.
“It is worthy of note that this strategic street at the heart of the community does not just serve as a sole link between Ola Road, other existing institutions and environs, but a start-off point leading to the ancestral home of Awogbren (voice of mercy) nation, Eggon Angbre.”
According to Dr. Anzaku, he decided to swing into action, employing an approach that carried the community along. He appreciated the youths of the community for providing the required labour for the work which greatly reduced the eventual cost of the project.
Describing the project as his ‘new year gift’ to his hometown of Angwan Sabo, Dr. Anzaku called on all the residents of the community to continue to live peacefully with one another so as to create room for even more development.
A member of the community who spoke to Eggonnews in reaction to the project, Mrs. Cecelia Dauda could not hide her joy when she said: “Our children have suffered a great deal. If they want to go to school, they cannot follow this place even though it is shorter. They have to go through the longer route by the main road. Now he (Dr. Anzaku) has wiped our tears.
“We have gone to politicians but they could not meet this need. Thank you for what you have done here today. Our appreciation may not be enough but we pray that God will reward you richly.”
After the commissioning of the bridge, Dr. Samuel Anzaku who is also the President of the Azhili Progressive Club, led other members of the club along with the ECDA President and other community leaders to donate exercise books and other writing materials to some schools in the community.
The schools that benefitted from this gesture include LGEA Primary School Anyiwalaghen, RCM Primary School Aloce, Government Day Secondary School Aloce, Government Secondary School Wakama, Government Secondary School Awogenshen among others.
