Ombugadu Vs Sule: Supreme Court Reserves Judgment Nasarawa Gubernatorial Election Appeal
The Supreme Court has reserved judgment in the appeal instituted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2023 gubernatorial candidate, David Emmanuel Ombugadu, challenging the judgment of the Court of Appeal that reinstated Governor Abdullahi Sule as the winner of the March 2023 Gubernatorial Election in the Nasarawa State.
A five-man panel of the court chaired by Justice Kudirat M. O Kekere-Ekun, adjourned the suit for judgement after taking arguments from counsels to the parties to the appeal earlier on Tuesday (January 16, 2024) in Abuja.
The panel also declared that a date for the judgement will be communicated to the counsels to the parties.
Recall that the Nasarawa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal had nullified the March 18 2023 gubernatorial election which produced Governor Sule, following which the Governor headed for the Court of Appeal to challenge the judgement of the tribunal.
On November 15th, 2023, the court of appeal sitting in Abuja vacated the judgement of the lower court, and declared Governor Sule as duly elected.
Dissatisfied with the pronouncement of the court of appeal, Ombugadu headed for the Supreme Court to challenge the ruling of the lower court.
