NSSG Complies With NFIU’s Directive On LG Autonomy
The Nasarawa State Government has said that it has complied with the directive of the Nigerian Financial Intelligent Unit (NFIU).
The government said acting according to unit’s directive is to ensure accountability in the way resources are managed.
Local government Chairmen in the State were also urged to share allocations with development areas that are unrecognised by the NFIU’s autonomy law
The Nasarawa State Government has said that it has acted accordingly to the new local government financial guidelines as directed by the Nigerian Financial Intelligent Unit (NFIU). Malam Bala Sani, the permanent secretary in the Ministry of local government and chieftaincy affairs, made this known during the state Joint Account Committee (JAC) meeting in Lafia,
He said the State Government’s total compliance to NFIU’s directive is to ensure accountability in the management of resources.
“The State Government, through the Ministry, has fully complied with the directive in order to ensure prudence and accountability in the management of resources.
“The guidelines have been put into operation since June 1, and the state has set up machinery to ensure its success,” he said.
The permanent secretary said that the JAC meeting still holds because money was not sent directly to the local governments’ account.
Sani said added that there are development areas that are not recongnised by the new law, asking LG chairmen to share resources with them.
Sani also mentioned that that statutory deductions are made first before other expenses like salaries for monarchs, money for LG staff training, and percentage for pension of retirees.
