The Nasarawa State Government has declared recent report in some newspapers on debt incurred by the immediate past administration as ‘evil machination by political opposition’.
In a press statement released by the Directorate of Strategic Communication and Press Affairs to the Governor and signed by the Director-General Yakubu Lamai, the newspaper reports were described as ‘evil machinations to instigate quarel between Governor Sule and Senator Almakura’.
According to the statement, the directorate “has noted that some evil merchants in Nasarawa State, are plotting to instigate a long-running political fight between Governor Abdullahi A. Sule and Senator Umaru Tanko Al-makura, with a view to polarize the APC ahead of the 2023 Elections.
“Over the years, we have seen how enemies of progress fan the embers of conflict and instigate bitter crises in various states of Nigeria, where political leaders who have hitherto enjoyed years of longstanding trust and mutual respect are suddenly turned against each-other and plunged into enduring rivalries of varying length and intensity.
“The Directorate of Strategic Communication & Press Affairs to His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi A. Sule states herewith that the exemplary cordial political relationship such as what thrives between Governor Sule and Senator Al-makura is built around a shared interest and common goal to ensure the peace, progress and development of Nasarawa State.
“It is to buttress this fact that His Excellency, Engineer Abdullahi A. Sule paid a courtesy call on Distinguished Senator Umaru Tanko Al-makura in Abuja to clear the air and restate with resounding clarity that Governor Sule has never “raised alarm or complained about alleged loans or budget support obtained by Nasarawa State whether by the immediate past administration of Al-makura, or at any other time in the history of Nasarawa State!”
“Recent newspaper reports which suggest that Governor Sule has complained about fictitious loans purportedly obtained by Senator Al-makura during his time as Governor, are malicious concoctions born of yellow journalism and sponsored by individuals who do not mean well for Nasarawa State. We therefore urge the public to disregard these tissue of lies!
“The fact is that since assuming office as Governor of Nasarawa State in May 2019, Engineer Abdullahi A. Sule has consistently affirmed his respect for Senator Umaru Tanko Al-makura and applauded the spectacular contributions of the immediate past administration of Al-makura to the growth and modernization of Nasarawa State.
“The Directorate of Strategic Communication & Press Affairs therefore wish to dispel all doubts and categorically state that former governor and now Distinguished Senator Umaru Tanko Al-makura enjoys the trust, goodwill and highest esteem of Governor Abdullahi A. Sule; and the loyalty in their relationship has been earned and built through the pursuit of similar political values that will improve the lives of citizens of Nasarawa State.
“During the courtesy call on Senator Al-makura, Governor Sule reiterated his consistent position that bailout funds provided by the Federal Government as well as budget support and Paris Club refunds were not commercial loans, but “special interventions” given to ALL states in Nigeria, (NOT ONLY NASARAWA STATE) and therefore should not to be portrayed as bank debt!
“On his part, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-makura thanked Governor Abdullahi A. Sule for coming with the Deputy Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe to “nip” the evil machinations of political opposition in the bud, and to also reaffirm their collective political solidarity, as he also appealed to journalists in Nasarawa State to cleanse their fold of mischievous practitioners who write stories strictly on the basis of speculation, conjecture and yellow journalism”, the statement reads.
