Nigeria’s Petroleum Minister, Timipre Sylva Resigns To Contest Bayelsa Governorship

Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva has resigned his appointment.

The resignation was confirmed by Special Assistant on Digital Communications to President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad via his official Twitter handle.

He tweeted: “Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, and former Bayelsa state governor, H.E. Timipre Sylva, has resigned his appointment to contest in the next Bayelsa governorship election”.

Timipre Sylva’s resignation is not unconnected to the Governorship elections scheduled to hold later in the year (2023), which he has indicated interest in contesting.

Recall that Timipre Sylva had last year resigned as Minister after declaring his intention to contest the Presidential primaries of the APC.

But a few days later, he withdrew the letter despite attending a valedictory session with President Buhari alongside other Ministers who contested the primaries.

He has now indicated interest in flying the flag of the APC in the Bayelsa gubernatorial election having governed the State between May 2008 and January 2012.
