Nassarawa Eggon Town Stands Still For Royal Weddings As Aren Eggon Marries Off Five Children

Nassarawa Eggon came to a standstill on Saturday February 17, 2024 as dignitaries from all around Nigeria converged in the town as the Aren Eggon, Justice Ahmed Ubangari (Rtd) oversaw the wedding fatiha of five of his children.

The wedding which took place at the palace of the Aren Eggon was witnessed by the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi Sule who was represented by his deputy, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe. The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau and his deputy, Rt. Hon. Adamu Oyanki were also present.

The royal weddings also had in attendance, traditional rulers from within and outside Nasarawa State including the Emir of Lafia and Chairman, Nasarawa State Traditional Council of Chiefs, Justice Sidi Bage (Rtd), the Chun Mada, Pastor Samson Gamu Yare, the Osana of Keana, Alhaji Abdullahi Agbo, the Andoma of Doma, Alhaji Ahmadu Aliyu Ogah Onawo, the Sarkin Maska of Funtua, the Sarkin Shelleng and the Sangarin Kwandere, Alhaji Ahmadu Almakura amongst others.

Other prominent personalities at the event include the Group CEO of NNPC, Mallam Mele Kyari Kolo, the Chief Financial Officer of NNPC, Alhaji Umar Isa Ajiya, Chief Operating Officer (Gas and Power) of NNPC Engr. Yusuf Usman and Alhaji Ahmed Abdulkabir the former Executive Vice President (Gas, Power and New Energies) NNPC.

Prominent sons and daughters of Eggon were also at the event including Major General Nuhu Angbazo (Rtd), Prof. Lazarus Angbazo, Prof. U. D. Mohammed, Danladi Envulua-anza Esq, General A. T. Umar (Rtd), Dauda S. Kigbu and Alhaji Yusuf Maiangwa among many others.

Conducting the wedding fatiha, the Chief Imam of Nassarawa Eggon Central Mosque, Sheikh Jibrin Yusuf Danladi urged the couples to embrace love and always understand with each other so that they can fully enjoy the benefits of marriage.

The first of the five weddings conducted was that of Aisha Ahmed Ubangari, the daughter of Aren Eggon and her beloved husband, Abdullahi.

The Emir of Lafia, HRH Justice Sidi Bage Muhammad (Rtd) stood in for the Bride’s family and Abdullahi Aliyu stood in for the groom’s family.

The second wedding was between Mubarak and Rukaiyat where the Andoma of Doma, HRH Alhaji Ahmadu Aliyu Ogah Onawo represented the Bride’s family.

The third wedding was between Mariam Muazu and Aliyu Ahmed where Osana of Keana, HRH Alhaji Abdullahi Agbo stood in for the Bride’s family and Aliyu Turaki stood in for the groom’s family.

The fourth one was between Naja’atu and Yakubu where Aren Eggon Erro, Alhaji Usman Hudu Maikeri stood in for the Bride’s family and Aliyu Abdullahi Idde stood in for the groom’s family.

The fifth wedding was between Fatima and Haruna where the Sarkin Arikiya, Alhaji Abbas Usman represented the Bride’s family and Alhaji Abubakar Baba Ibrahim represented the groom’s family.

In all the weddings, N200,000 was paid each as dowry.

Speaking after the ceremony, the Aren Eggon, Justice Ahmed Ubangari expressed his joy that he is able to witness the befitting wedding fatiha of his children. He said: “I am particularly very happy on the occasion of the wedding ceremony of these my children. All of them, we are related in one way or the other, those of them who are from the side of the Magajin Garin Nassarawa Eggon and those who are the children of my late brothers, we are the same. They came a very long way and I am happy. Happy in the sense that we are getting them out and these children are marrying when I have become the paramount ruler of the entire Eggon people.”

He appreciated all those who honoured his invitation saying it was an honour not just to him and his family but the entire Eggon nation. “It is an honour to me; not to me alone but to the family and to the entire Eggon nation. So I have remained particularly grateful to the Governor who was virtually present. His deputy was there. The Emir of Lafia who is our Chairman and a host of traditional rulers including those who have come from outside the State. Some came all the way from Katsina because my daughter Rukkayat is married to Katsina people. They were all around.

“So I am particularly happy at this momentous occasion. Engr. Mele Kyari who has been working tirelessly with my son the Magajin Gari, came with a host of people. I am grateful and honoured.

“I am grateful particularly to the traditional rulers from Nasarawa State who came in their numbers. In fact, those who could not come sent messages. I am the happiest person and I wish these couples a peaceful and successful life.”

Commenting on the ceremony, the Secretary to the Magajin Garin Nassarawa Eggon, Alhaji Umar Abdullahi Galle had this to say: “This is a royal wedding. As you can see the Aren Eggon gave five of his children out in marriage. And that attracted personalities from different parts of the country to rejoice with His Royal Highness, Justice Ahmed Ubangari.

“It is not just that, it was a symbolic event. As you can see, the palace of the Aren Eggon was unveiled today. We are happy and the people that came are happy. And the occasion presented opportunity for prayers for the nation, the community, the government and the couple. So we are happy to be part of the day’s event.

“Our prayer is that the couple fulfils their marital responsibilities, stay in peace and be tolerant to each other. Above all, we pray for the well-being of their families.”
