Nasarawa United Thrash SI14 FC 5–0 in Gusau/Ahlan Cup Opener
Nasarawa United kicked off their campaign in the 2025 Gusau/Ahlan Cup Pre-Season Tournament with a resounding 5–0 victory over SI14 FC, in the tournament’s curtain-raiser held at the Lafia City Stadium on Friday afternoon.
The Solid Miners wasted no time asserting dominance over the Nationwide League One side, with Chidera Nduka opening the scoring in the 21st minute through a beautifully executed free-kick that left goalkeeper Ahmed Abubakar rooted to the spot.
Ten minutes later, it was 2–0. Left-back Mubarak Hussaini rifled a powerful shot into the roof of the net, doubling the lead before both teams headed into the break with the NPFL side firmly in control.
Barely a minute into the second half, Nasarawa United extended their advantage as Omolayo Abiodun clinically slotted home a third goal. Things got worse for SI14 in the 58th minute when Umar Adah made it 4–0 with a well-placed finish following sustained pressure.
SI14 FC tried to fight back, with Ibrahim Ndala and Mustapha Olasunkami forcing goalkeeper Ameh Godwin into a pair of impressive saves. But any hope of a late resurgence was dashed in the 81st minute when SI14’s central defender, Tochukwu Miracle, inadvertently turned the ball into his own net, sealing the 5–0 rout.
The emphatic win sends a clear message about Nasarawa United’s ambitions in this year’s competition, as they tentatively go top of their group with three points.
The next set of fixtures for both teams will be announced in the coming days.
