Nasarawa State Yet To Record Any Confirmed Cholera Case – Health Commissioner

Nasarawa State Government has not recorded any confirmed case of Cholera in the State.

This information was disclosed by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Gaza Gwamna during the opening ceremony of a 3-day workshop on Reproductive, Maternal and Child Health (RMCH) organized by Rotary International in the Akwanga Local Government Area of the State on Monday (July 1, 2024).

Dr Gwamna, however, said that there has been a total of 29 suspected cases of cholera in two out of the 13 local government areas of the State with 19 recorded in Kokona and 10 in Nassarawa-Eggon Local Government Areas with one mortality.

He further explained that the only mortality recorded which was in Nassarawa Eggon was a man that was brought to the hospital with diarrhea and vomiting but died before appropriate tests could be conducted to confirm if it was cholera.

He assured residents of Nasarawa State that the government was fully prepared for any possible outbreak of the disease.

According to the Commissioner, “the government has already deployed disease surveillance officers at the community level, the ward level and the Local Government level. The surveillance officers will provide reports of happenings in their areas on daily basis to enable the government to take action in case of any outbreak.

“We already have the consumables such as IV fluids at the government store and are ready for any possible outbreak, anywhere in the State.”
