Nasarawa State University to Confer Senator Al-Makura Honorary Doctorate Degree
A delegation of the Governing Council, Senate and Management of Nasarawa State University Keffi, led by the Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof Adamu Baikie and Vice Chancellor, Prof. Suleiman Bala Mohammed, today paid a courtesy visit to Senator Al-Makura in his Jabi office, Abuja.
The delegation said they were with the Senator to intimate and present to him the decision of the Council on his nomination for the conferment of Honorary Doctorate Degree, to be presented during the 6th combined convocation ceremony slated for 28th March, 2020.
According to the Vice Chancellor, the Council and Management of the University considered Senator Al-Makura worthy of this recognition because of his massive transformation of the education sector when he held sway as the State Governor between 2011 to 2019.
The Vice Chancellor added that as Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Al-Makura is leaving no stone unturned to bring about the desired legislative turn around in the Solid Minerals sector.
The Vice Chancellor went on to say that Senator Al-Makura has a very unique political fortune by defeating the incumbent in 2011, conducted the most free and fair LG elections in Nigeria, the only CPC Governor in Nigeria, and has ensured the political stability in Nasarawa by bringing a worthy successor.
According to the Vice Chancellor, Senator Al-Makura as visitor to the university, made unparalleled contributions by providing basic infrastructures, and appointing reputable personalities as members of the University Council.
On his part, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Adamu Baikie, after eulogising Senator Al-Makura for his outstanding contributions, had, on behalf of the Council and Management of the university presented the letter of nomination for the award to Senator Al-Makura.
In his acceptance speech, Senator Al-Makura thanked the university authority for deeming him worthy of the nomination.
He said that NSUK symbolised national unity and epitomised a collective desire to build a strong nation.
He also said that he is happy that the institution realises its important position in the educational salvation of our youth and the rejuvenation of our nation.
Senator Al-Makura also congratulated the Governing Council, Senate, Management and staff of the university for recording progress in achieving the objective for which it was set up.
To wrap up the visit, the Vice Chancellor officially unveiled the university 2020 calendar to Senator Al-Makura.
