Nasarawa State Recorded 89 Percent Treatment Success Rate As Calls For More Action Mark 2023 World TB Day
Nasarawa State recorded 89 percent success rate in the treatment of tuberculosis in the year 2022.
This was disclosed in a special address by the Nasarawa State Commissioner for Health, Pharm. Ahmed Baba Yahaya to mark the 2023 World TB Day.
He said a total of 5,408 cases of TB were recorded in the year 2022 with 21 percent of those co-infected with HIV.
With the 89 percent treatment success rate recorded, Pharm. Ahmed Baba Yahaya called for more efforts from all stakeholders to meet the target of 95 percent success rate set by the national TB control program.
The Commissioner for Health, while disclosing that efforts were being made to make TB services more accessible especially to the rural areas, urged residents of Nasarawa State to take advantage of the 366 TB/DOTS Treatment and 64 microscopy centers to obtain services.
He also revealed that the government of Engr. Abdullahi Sule budgeted the sum of six million naira only in the 2023 Budget for the TB program in Nasarawa State and appreciated all the organisations that have continued to partner with the government. This he said, was responsible for the success being achieved in the fight against TB and called for more efforts.
