The Nasarawa State Government has concluded plans to establish a rehabilitation center for girls who have been victims of abuse.
This was disclosed by the Director of Child Welfare in the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Esther Adokwe in an exclusive interview with Eggonnews marking the 2022 International Day of the Girl Child.
She said the Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, has approved a large parcel of land where the rehabilitation center will be located.
According to her, when the center is completed, it will serve as a safe haven for children especially the girls who have suffered violent acts and are seeking to flee such situations.
She said Governor Sule who has shown particular concern for the welfare of children in the State, is working hard through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development to ensure that no child is left behind especially when it concerns their education.
Highlighting poverty and ignorance as the main causes of discrimination and abuse against the girl child, Mrs. Esther Adokwe called on parents and guardians to take advantage of the initiatives by the State Government in form of skills acquisition trainings and enlightenment campaigns to properly equip themselves to provide standard care for the children that are under them.
