Nasarawa Speaker Advocates For Cultural Preservation At Daughter’s Traditional Wedding

The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly (NSHA), Rt. Hon. Dr. Danladi Jatau, has called on Nigerians to actively protect, promote, and sustain their diverse cultural heritage for the benefit of future generations and to foster greater peace within society.

Dr. Jatau made this appeal on Saturday, April 19, 2025, as he celebrated the traditional Eggon marriage ceremony (Ebyekpyen) of his daughter, Esther Akayi, to her husband, Mr. Josiah Esla Victor. The vibrant ceremony took place in his hometown of Angiri, Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

Speaking at the event, the NSHA Speaker emphasized the crucial role of embracing and upholding cultural traditions in fostering unity and peace across the nation.

“I want to call on other ethnic groups in the country,” Dr. Jatau urged, “let us sustain our culture by promoting it at all times. If we do not promote our culture, one day we will wake up and find that our culture is gone.”

He extended his heartfelt congratulations to the newly wedded couple, Esther and Josiah, on their successful traditional union, wishing them a blissful future together. “I am happy that the traditional marriage was conducted successfully,” he stated.

Dr. Jatau also expressed his sincere gratitude to the people of his constituency for their unwavering support and encouraged them to continue in this vein.

Furthermore, the Speaker called upon his constituents and the entire state to maintain their support for the administration of Governor Abdullahi Sule, emphasizing that this support would enable the Governor to continue his commendable work across various sectors.

“This is to enable His Excellency to continue with the good work he is doing for the state,” Dr. Jatau affirmed. “As His Excellency’s achievements speak for themselves across the state in terms of education, agriculture, infrastructure, health, among others.”

He concluded by expressing his appreciation to his fellow members of the House of Assembly, traditional and religious leaders, dignitaries, and numerous well-wishers who graced his daughter’s traditional wedding. He offered prayers for their safe return to their respective destinations.

On his part, the groom, Mr. Josiah Esla Victor, expressed his profound joy and gratitude for the successful traditional wedding. “Today, we are happy and overwhelmed that we have wedded traditionally,” he shared.
