‘Nasarawa NUJ Chairman The Best In North Central’
A group under the aegis of National Association of North-Central Students (NANCS) has awarded the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Nasarawa State Council, Salihu Mohammed Alkali, as the best in the North-Central geopolitical zone of the country.
Receiving the award on Thursday September 29, 2022 in his office at the NUJ Press Centre along Makurdi Road, Lafia, the NUJ Chairman appreciated the students for their kind gesture in recognition of his modest contributions to the development of the society.
He said: “This is the first award I am receiving since I became the Chairman of NUJ. As you can see, I work with my team. I always pray to God to give me the opportunity to lead my people well. I am not boasting but I have to be open with them because if you hide now, it is God that is seeing you. That is my conviction.”
He also called on the student leaders to eschew politics of acrimony and sentiments.
“What is dividing this country at the moment is sentiments. We know who can do what and at what time but because we have other sentiments that are clouding our minds, we are not moving forward.
“You must also avoid social vices. Abusing drugs does not add anything to you. Rather, it reduces your ability to function properly in the society. Please advice your students to make sure they stay away from such things because you are the future of this country. Nobody knows who amongst you is going to be Governor so you should not spend your tomorrow on today.”
Earlier on in their remarks, NUJ National Trustee Zone ‘D’, Usman Mohammed Musa, Vice Chairman, NUJ Nasarawa State Council, Mrs Juliana Ofoku and the Secretary, Sunday John, all extolled the virtues of the Nasarawa NUJ Chairman.
According to them, the award by the NANCS was only a confirmation and a testament of what they already knew about Salihu Mohammed Alkali as a transparent, visionary and hardworking leader.
They appreciated the students and hoped the award will spur the Nasarawa State NUJ Chairman to do even more for journalists and the society at large.
The delegation from the National Association of North-Central Students (NANCS) was led by their President, Aji Abraham.
They said the choice of Salihu Mohammed Alkali for the award was after meticulous and painstaking research and were happy to recognize him for all his laudable achievements.
