Nasarawa Government To Take Action Over Epileptic Power Supply, High Electricity Bills

The Nasarawa State Government has urged residents to remain calm as the take action over the epileptic power supply in the State as well as the high electricity bills being charged by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).

Speaking during the 2023 Workers Day celebration which held at the Lafia City Square, the Nasarawa State Governor, Engr Abdullahi Sule said the State Government had already booked an appointment with the management of the AEDC in Abuja on Tuesday.

The Governor who was represented at the event by his deputy, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe was responding to a threat by the organized labour in the State to mobilize her members as well as other residents to stage a protest at the AEDC office.

Dr. Akabe however appealed to NLC as well as members of the public to remain calm as the problem would soon be tackled.

In his speech earlier at the event, Nasarawa State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Ayuba Oko called on the AEDC to urgently address the epileptic supply of electricity  and reduce the bills being issued to consumers in the State.

He explained that the billing system must tally with the power supplied to consumers in view of the current economic reality in the country.

“Failure on the part of AEDC to address these issues, the Congress will be left with no option than to picketing their offices in the State,” the NLC Chairman added.

He called on residents to support the union on this struggle and get ready for the protest incase AEDC fails to address the issues.

Recently, residents of Nasarawa State especially Lafia the capital, have been experiencing epileptic power supply and the electricity bills have been on a steady increase rising to N51,000 in the last month.
