Nasarawa Assembly Wants Governor Sule To End Epileptic Power Supply Through PPP

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Works has urged the state government under Governor Abdullahi Sule to enter into public private partnerships (PPP) arrangements in order to generate more power so as to end the epileptic power supply being experienced in the State.
This, the lawmakers say, will enhance business activities in the State and end the monopoly being enjoyed by AEDC.
Hon. Suleiman Yakubu Azara, the Chairman of the Committee who is also the Majority Leader of the House, made the call when the management of Nasarawa Electricity Power Agency (NAePA) and Ministry of Works and Transport appeared separately before the committee for assessment on their budget performances today (Monday May 13, 2024) in Lafia.
Hon. Azara, said that the exercise was not to witch-hunt anybody but to assess the budget performance under review.
“Our Right Honourable Speaker, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, has directed us to embark on an oversight function to MDAs.
“Oversight is one of our constitutional responsibilities, ours is to check what you do with the releases made to you” he said.
The Majority Leader also assured of the commitment of the House to support MDAs to enable them succeed.
Hon Azara said that the committee would embark on assessment visit to projects sites across the State in order to ascertain the level of works going on in accordance with what the Ministry of Works presented to the committee.
Earlier, Mr Yakubu Suleiman, the General Manager, NAePA appreciated the committee for the support the agency was enjoying from it.
He also appreciated Gov. Abdullahi Sule for ensuring power supply in the State.
The General Manager assured of his readiness to ensure that power is supply to communities across the State adequately.
He, however, appealed for more funding.
On his part, the Commissioner for Works and Transport, Alhaji Muazu Adamu Gosho said that the ministry has being up and doing in the provision of infrastructure across the State.
He also appreciated the committee and Gov. Abdullahi Sule for supporting the activities of the ministry to succeed.
The Commissioner assured of the state government commitment to provide more infrastructure.
