The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has directed the Nasarawa State Teachers Service Commission to issue appointment letters to engaged teachers with genuine certificates on Primary Education Studies (PES).

The directive came from the House Committee on Education, Science and Technology. According to the directive, the state teachers service commission is to issue appointment letters to engaged teachers with PES certificate in English, geography, economic and social studies to teach in junior secondary School.

Chairman of the committee, Hon. Daniel Ogah Ogazi who gave the directive during a joint meeting with the state ministry of education science and technology and the state teachers service commission at the Assembly Conference Hall in Lafia on Monday said it is to resolve the outcry by the general public and protest by some of the affected engaged teachers in the state.

Hon. Ogazi assured that the committee will not compromise standard of education in the state.

Chairman TUC Abdullahi Abu Galadima while giving explanation, said the commission has disqualified 161 engaged with PES certificate because they are not qualified to teach in secondary School.

On her own part, the Nasarawa State Commissioner of Education Hon. Fati Jimeta Sabo said the ministry was in support of the house committee’s directive as it is in line with the guidelines of the National Commission for the Certificate of Education.
