Management Of Isa Mustapha Agwai I Polytechnic Shutdown Institution For One Week Following Students Protest

The Management of Isa Musthapha Agwai I Polytechnic Lafia, Nasarawa State has today (March 11, 2021), shutdown the institution for one week following the protest by the students.

Dr Justina Kotso, Rector of the polytechnic announced the closure while briefing newsmen on the aftermath of the protest on Thursday (March 11, 2021) in Lafia.

According to the Rector, given the security situation in the institution, the management decided in their emergency meeting to give a one week break.

In her words: “We woke up this morning calmly preparing our students for semester examination scheduled for Monday March 15, then suddenly we realised that the students started a protest.

“They started throwing stones breaking classes and carrying placards even after meeting with their leaders.

“When they came to the admistrative block, we had a meeting with the students union government, but did not know why they started destroying items,” the Rector added.

The Rector also denied the allegation by the students that the management had closedown the registration portal and increased late registration from N5, 000 to N10, 000.

She explained that the registration portal is open and the management did not increase any fee as they do not have the power on their own to increase registration fees in the institution.

Dr Justina Kotso also disclosed that the management had set up a committee to investigate the remote and immediate cause of the protest and report to the management for onward action.

Recall we earlier reported that the students of the Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic, Lafia, on Thursday barricaded the Lafia-Jos Road for several hours, to protest the closure of the school’s registration portal by its management.
