Lafia LG Chairman Commissions Project By Akurba Ward Councillor

The Chairman of Lafia Local Government Area, Hon. Muazu Aminu Maifata has commissioned a box culvert project constructed by the Councillor representing Akurba Ward in Lafia Local Government Legislative Council, Hon. Egga Lucky Obele.

The project is located in Ombi 1 community of Akurba Ward.

Performing the commissioning ceremony today (Friday February 9, 2024), Hon. Maifata who is also the Chairman of Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Nasarawa State, expressed his pleasure with Hon. Egga Lucky Obele for having passion for his constituents.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Abubakar Laminu, the Lafia LG Chairman disclosed how the Councillor was always mounting pressure on the Local Government to allocate funds for the project because of the deplorable state of the junction.

“We know the amount of efforts you put to see that this project is done and we are happy that it has finally become a reality.
Today we are commissioning this project and it is also to encourage you to do more. The Member representing Lafia Central in the House of Assembly, Hon. Solomon Akwashiki was once Councillor representing Akurba Ward. Our prayer for you is that you will follow a similar path and go to greater heights.”

Speaking in agreement with the Chairman, the Supervisory Councillor on Works Housing and Transport, Lafia Local Government, Hon. Yahaya Sabo Laminu said
“Since the day he first came with the request, there is no day he won’t call to ask about how it is going. Whenever it rains, he will take pictures of the place to show us the plight of his people.”

He assured the Ombi 1 community that Lafia Local Government will continue to include projects in their community in the budget so as to bring the dividends of democracy to the grassroots.

On his part, the Councillor representing Akurba Ward, Hon. Egga Lucky Obele could not hide his joy that the project was finally a reality.

Speaking on how he raised funds for the project, the Councillor revealed that he had to approach key members of the Ombi 1 community including Lavista, Lace Restaurant, Confidence Hotel and Timafeek Hotel amongst others.

He appreciated members of the community for their efforts in the project which greatly reduced the eventual cost of the culvert.

He called on other communities to emulate  the Ombi 1 community and take responsibility for the development of their communities even when government is unable to meet their needs.

The benefiting community, the Ombi 1 community also appreciated the Councillor for meeting their need.

Speaking on behalf of the Ombi 1 Community Development Association, Henry Peter Galle said: “Before now, it is impossible to follow this road. If people want to pass, they will have to go round through the other street. Now we will no longer have this problem.”

He also revealed that Hon. Egga Lucky Obele has always come to the aid of the community recalling when the Councillor put all efforts to facilitate the replacement of one of the transformers in the community that was bad.

He said the community will continue to be proud of Hon. Egga Lucky Obele and urged other politicians to truly serve the people.
