Labaran Magaji, Nasarawa SSG, Named Among 57 Lawyers To Be Conferred With SAN Title
Labaran Shuaibu Magaji, the Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State and immediate past Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, has been named among 57 distinguished legal practitioners approved for elevation to the coveted rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

The announcement was made on Wednesday (July 23, 2025) following the 169th plenary session of the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) held in Abuja. The session, presided over by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, gave approval for the elevation of 56 advocates and one academic to the revered rank.
Labaran Magaji’s selection into the elite league of legal minds marks a significant milestone not just in his personal legal career, but also a moment of pride for Nasarawa State, where he has served with distinction in both legal and administrative capacities.
The SAN title is awarded to legal practitioners who have demonstrated exceptional excellence in the practice of law, either through their advocacy in the courtroom or scholarly contribution to legal education.
Speaking on the approval, the LPPC emphasized that, “The rank of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria is conferred as a mark of professional excellence upon legal practitioners who have demonstrated exceptional distinction either as advocates in the courts or as academics contributing significantly to the development of legal scholarship.”
Two female lawyers made the prestigious list this year: Mrs Oyinkan Badejo-Okusanya, Chairperson of the 2024 NBA Annual General Conference Planning Committee, and Mrs Chinyere Ekene Moneme.
Also on the list are notable legal personalities including Ikechukwu Uwanna, the Attorney General of Abia State and former Chairman of the NBA Lagos branch; Oluwole Jimi-Bada, Attorney General of Osun State; and the sole academic appointee, Prof. Chima Ubanyionwu.
The new SANs will be sworn in by the Chief Justice of Nigeria on Monday, September 29, 2025.
As part of the induction process, all prospective SANs are expected to participate in the Pre-Swearing-In Induction Programme, in line with directives from the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN).
The LPPC also noted that three petitions filed against certain applicants were reviewed and found to be without merit.
