Inmates, Patients Receive Succour As Islamic Society Of Eggonland Spreads Love At Ramadan

In what has now become a Ramadan tradition, the Islamic Society of Eggonland (ISE) has visited hospitals in Nassarawa Eggon and Akwanga as well as the custodial center of the Nigeria Correctional Services in Wamba.

At the health facilities, the ISE gave donations of cash and beverages such as milk, milo and packs of juice to patients on admission.

The outreach which is the sixth edition since it began in 2019, held on the 4th day of Ramadan (4 Ramadan 1446 AH/Tuesday 4 March 2025) saw the ISE team visit the General Hospital Nassarawa Eggon, PHC Clinic Nassarawa Eggon, Mokwa Clinic Nassarawa Eggon and the newly upgraded Specialist Hospital in Akwanga.

Speaking at the end of the outreach the leader of the team and General Secretary of the ISE, Alhaji Umar Abdullahi Galle spoke on the importance of positively touching the lives of the less privileged especially at Ramadan.

He said: “One of the reasons for this outing by the ISE today is to fulfil our spiritual obligation in the month of Ramadan. This the sixth in the series of our humanitarian visits to hospitals and correctional centers in Nasarawa North Senatorial Zone.

“We started with hospitals in Nassarawa Eggon – General Hospital Nassarawa Eggon where beverages were given to patients on admission. After the General Hospital Nassarawa Eggon, we moved to all the clinics in Nassarawa Eggon town where similar gesture was extended to patients on admission. A number of patients were met and were given these beverages.

“From there we proceeded to the Specialist Hospital Akwanga where we got the highest number of patients because the hospital has been upgraded to a tertiary health facility. There were patients from various parts of the State including neighbouring states. All of them received these items from us. And we are happy because we touched lives in these hospitals and clinics.

“From there we came to the Wamba Custodial Centre of the Nigeria Correctional Services. We met with the management and we were introduced to the inmates. Meeting with them, we began with a sermon because of the significance of Ramadan. You know it is a period of reflection, of mercy, of prayer and our lead Malam touched different parts of the Quran, drawing lessons on what God says about reformation. And the inmates were very receptive and appreciative of the messages they got from us. The management were equally grateful. We appreciate the cordial relationship over the years.”

At the Wamba Custodial Centre of the Nigeria Correctional Services, the ISE donated some foodstuff to the facility. They include two 100kg bags of maize, five 50kg bags of rice, two 50kg bags of sugar, two cartons of seasoning cubes, cartons of dried fish, a bag of grounded millet and a bag of salt.

In response, the officer in charge of the custodial center, John Ali Vando (a Superintendent of Corrections) appreciated the ISE for the gesture saying, “On behalf of the Comptroller-General of Correctional Services and our Comptroller here in Lafia, I want to sincerely appreciate your coming. I assure you that by the grace of God, these items donated to the inmates are going to be properly used for the sake of all the inmates.”

At the newly upgraded Specialist Hospital in Akwanga, the hospital secretary, Mrs. Justina Angbas, who spoke on behalf of the medical superintendent was full of gratitude to the Islamic Society of Eggonland.

She recalled previous editions of the outreach where the organization went beyond assisting the patients to also donating important equipment to the hospital.

She said: “You have been coming to this facility not once, not twice. I think the relationship that you have built with us in this facility is not something that we just say thank you. It’s only God that will reward you.

“I sincerely want to appreciate you, not because of this item that you brought. You have been bringing so many things. I could remember how you brought wheelchair, oxygen concentrator and so many things. So many people have benefitted and are still benefitting from those things. In fact, we don’t have anything to say than to say thank you. It’s only God who bless you. I believe that this month of Ramadan is a month of blessing. I pray that this thing that you brought, you will not see it now. In times to come, in future, you will see the blessing that will follow each and every one of you. I pray that God will help you.”

Some of the beneficiaries who spoke to Eggonnews including Mrs. Mercy Barnabas and Mr. Tigga expressed gratitude for the gesture from the Islamic Society of Eggonland and prayed for God’s blessings upon the organization and its benefactors.
