Governor Sule’s Visit To Wike Not To Influence Tribunal Judgment

The recent visit by Nasarawa State Governor, Engr Abdullahi Sule to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Barr. Nyesom Wike was not to influence the outcome of the Nasarawa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal seating in Lafia.

This was disclosed by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Public Affairs, Peter Ahemba during a press briefing today (Sunday September 17, 2023) in Lafia.

The Nasarawa State Governor’s aide was responding to media publications where the Nasarawa State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Francis Orogu was quoted to have called on Gov. Abdullahi Sule who is also the Chairman of the North-Central Governors’ Forum, not to drag President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Barr. Nyesom Wike and others into Nasarawa politics.

According to Mr. Ahemba, Governor Sule regards the allegation by the Nasarawa State PDP Chairman that his recent visit to the FCT Minister was to seek his support towards securing a favourable judgment at the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, as “as a normal behaviour of any opposition political party, especially one that has suffered defeat at Governorship elections for four (4) consecutive times and at the verge of suffering another defeat at the Tribunal.”

Explaining the purpose of the visit, Mr. Ahemba said: “First and foremost, the PDP leader and indeed, members of the public should note that the recent working visit to the FCT Minister by Governor Sule was mainly to solicit for further collaboration with the FCT Administration for a metro line from Apo to Keffi, as well as a partnership to build the 13,000 hectares Gurku/Kabusu Mega City that is only about 5km away from Maitama ll. A day before the visit to the FCT Minister, the governor was visited by the Hon Ministers of Police Affairs, as well as the Health and Social Welfare in company of GAVI at the Nasarawa Governor’s lodge in Abuja, while the Governor also visited the Hon. Minister of Minerals Resources the same day, all with the aim to attract development to the State.

“Unarguably, about 40 percent of those working in FCT live in Nasarawa State and any right-thinking opposition political party leader, who mean well for the State will admit the fact that Nasarawa State has witnessed and still recording tremendous progress under Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule-led Government as a result of such collaborations with relevant individuals and organizations. An opposition party that has the interest of the people at heart and is interested in propelling good governance through constructive critisms will applaud the Governor’s initiative to timely seek partnership with the new FCT Minister because it is a right step in the right direction.”

He assured citizens of Nasarawa State of Governor Sule’s resolve not to be distracted but to remain focused on the task of governance for the overall benefit of the State as he had ‘zero worries’ about what might be the outcome of the election.
