GOVERNOR SULE’S BIG SUPPORT FOR WOMEN’S FOOTBALL : Nasarawa Amazons Receive N20M Cash Prize
Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, played host to the Nasarawa Amazons, the state’s female football team, at the Government House in Lafia, following their impressive victory at the Betsy Obaseki Women’s Football Pre-season Cup Tournament held in Benin City, Edo State.
The Governor was visibly impressed by the team’s performance and praised their commitment, hard work, and team spirit. He noted that their victory was not only a proof of their skills but also a source of pride for the State.
“I am glad to receive our champions of today, and by the grace of God, tomorrow, the pride of Nasarawa State, Nasarawa Amazons,” the Governor said. He also congratulated the coaching crew, supporting team, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development for their roles in the team’s success.
As a token of appreciation, the Governor rewarded the team with a cash prize of Ten Million Naira (N10,000,000.00). He also made a donation of an additional Ten Million Naira to serve as incentives for the team’s future endeavors.
The Governor assured the team that their challenges would be addressed promptly. He also commended the team’s Chairperson, Hajiya Hussaina Suleiman Nagogo, for her tireless efforts in supporting the team.
Hajiya Nagogo expressed her gratitude to the Governor for his unwavering support. She highlighted the team’s impressive performance in the Pre-season Tournament, where they won all their games against tough opponents.
The team’s success was not limited to the Pre-season Tournament. Some players were also invited to participate in Nigeria’s U-20 and U-17 teams, while the team’s Technical Adviser, Christopher Danjuma, was shortlisted for the CAF Coach of the Year award.
The Governor pledged his administration’s continued support to both Nasarawa Amazons and Nasarawa United, as well as other sports initiatives in the State. He emphasized the importance of sports in attracting investors to the State.
Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Jafaru Ango, attributed the team’s success to the Governor’s continued support and commitment to youth and sports development in the State.
The ceremony, which was attended by top Government officials and sports stakeholders, featured presentations of the Pre-season Tournament trophy, medals, and a Ten Million Naira dummy cheque.
