Gov. Sule Downsizes Ministries From 18 To 13, Solicits Stakeholders’ Support

As part of his administration’s commitment to reduce cost of governance, excessiveness in public service, Governor Abdullahi A. Sule has reduced the number existing Ministries in the State from 18 to 13.

Governor Sule, who announced the downsizing of the Ministries during a Stakeholders meeting in Lafia on Monday (September 16, 2019), said the decision became necessary as some of the Ministries were performing multiple functions.

Out of the 18 existing Ministries created by the past government of Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, five were scrapped.

The affected Ministries which are scrapped and merged with re-established ones are Special Education, Science and Technology, Higher Education, Housing and Urban Development, Community Development and Water Resources.

While the 13 Ministries created by the administration of Governor Sule are Education, Health, Land and Urban Development, Environment and Natural Resources, Youths and Sports Development, Justice, Finance and Economic Planning.

Others include, Local Government, Community and Chieftaincy Affairs, Women affairs and Social Development, Works, Housing and Transport, Agriculture and Water Resources and Trade, Industries and Investment and information culture and tourism

Governor Abdullahi Sule said the development was to a ensure Ministries are reduced to manageable size and avoid conflicting roles.

He said government is already working towards strengthening Ministries, Departments, and Agencies for effective service delivery.

He called for the support of Stakeholders’ of the State to enable him succeed in providing service to the people.
