Gov A. A. Sule Marks 100 Days In Office With Inspection Of Projects
As part of activities marking his 100 days in office, Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule inspected ongoing projects within and outside the State capital, with a view to ascertaining the progress of work.
In a news report filed by Ali Bare, the Personal Assistant to the Governor on Media, Engineer Sule who, despite the early morning down pour, on Thursday, visited projects being executed by the State Government, Federal Government and other investors in the State, which when completed will benefit the State.
At the 330 KV power distribution injection transmission sub-station in Akurba (7km along Lafia – Shendam road), the Governor expressed satisfaction with the progress of work, noting that the work was on track and the December dateline for the completion of the project is realizable.
“From what we are seeing, the control tower is about 70-80% completed,” Engineer Sule told journalists at the site of the project.
If completed, the substation will have six lines to power the entire State, according to the Governor, two of these going directly into Lafia, which is in dire need of power, one line going back to Akwanga, one Assakio, one Doma and the last one to Alakyo.
While describing the ongoing work as impressive, Engineer Sule however insisted that it was more important to ensure that the project is completed within the stipulated time.
At the Cargo Airport in Kwandere, a project started by his predecessor, former Governor, Senator Umaru Tanko Al-makura, the Governor observed that what remained was the erecting of the perimeter fence.
“The only major thing not yet completed really is the fencing of the airport. Otherwise most of the facilities in the airport have been completed. The runway is completed, we have airplanes that are already landing at the airport, the terminal building is almost completed,” he stated.
Engineer Sule expressed satisfaction with the progress of work at the Kwandere airport.
At the on-going construction of the Shinge-Rice Mill-Kilema road, the Governor visited the two major erosion sites, where he emphasized that the major issue was the control of the erosion running into Doma dam.
The Governor however expressed concern over the indiscriminate dumping of refuse which tends to block drainages in the area leading to floods which come with devastating effects.
Engineer Sule, who took time to visit the Kilema Bridge submerged in a flood, sympathized with the people over the incident, particularly that lives were lost following the early morning flood occasioned by an early morning down pour.
“What is causing most of the problems around the area is the fact that we throw so much waste into the area and the waste goes to block most of the drainages and is causing a lot of problems to the people,” he said.
The Governor used the opportunity to call on the people of the State, particularly those living in Lafia, to desist from indiscriminate dumping of waste.
He disclosed that his administration will approach the issue in three different ways namely, increasing the length of the Kilema bridge to allow more access for the river to flow, bringing out most of the waste from the river, as well as building an embankment that will shield the river from the accumulated waste.
At the Dalhatu Araf Specialists Hospital, the Governor could hardly suppress his satisfaction at the level of ongoing work at the facility.
“I’m very happy with the amount of work we did with very little money, especially, in the wards. The children’s ward has been upgraded.
“The children who are sick need to see something beautiful so they can get well quicker,” the Governor said.
As part of marking the first one hundred days of his administration, Engineer Sule equally flagged-off the ICT innovation hubs at the Lafia E-library.
He was later hosted to a dinner by the Bukuru Technical College (BUTECH) Old Boys Association at the Taal Conference Hotel.
Engineer Sule is scheduled to commission a Technology Incubation Centre on Friday.
