‘Give Your Best To Your Duties, Respect Time’ – Plateau State Information Commissioner
The Plateau State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Hon. Dan Manjang, has described time as a great resource that should not be taken for granted, hence the need for staff of the ministry to take it seriously or face sanction.
He stated this while taking over the mantle of leadership of the ministry at the JD Gomwalk Secretariat, Jos, the State Capital where his supporters trooped in to congratulate him.
The Commissioner said, “most importantly, I would like you to take is, I have come here to work to the benefit of Plateau people so that we can move our State forward. I have principles and sometimes my principles might go at cross road with your own, but once we are in the official capacity, it is nothing but work.
“I cherish time management. I believe in keeping to time because it is the only resource that cannot be regained when you lose it. It is of essence and I expect you to keep to time. If you want us to work happily together, you must keep to time. If I am here by 8am, you have to be here at 8 o’clock. If I don’t leave by 4 o’clock you don’t have a reason to leave.
“We will not allow that and I want the department and agencies to also take it, because you must lead by example. I know that, the heart of Plateau people, their expectation is very high and we must together work to redeem or quench their expectations. I cannot do it alone,” he stressed.
Manjang, therefore warned that the new system would not tolerate laziness, stressing that he would work with those who are ready to adapt with system.
He said staff that would not adjust to the new system would be transferred to where they can be tolerated, saying with what he has seen in the Ministry, there was sign of seriousness in the staff.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Elder Michael Pam, thanked Governor Simon Bako Lalong, for appointing the Commissioner to the Ministry, describing the appointment as round peg in a round hole and called on the staff of the ministry to give the Commissioner the same cooperation given to him.
There was commendation from the Interim Sole Administration of the Plateau Publishing Corporation (PPC) the Publishers of The Nigeria Standard and Sunday Standard newspapers Mrs. Yankat Wannang and the General Manger PRTVC Mr. Jephtha Jackden respectively.
