Electricity Generation Soon To Commence In Nasarawa State
If all goes according to plan, the Nasarawa State Government will soon commence generating and distributing electricity in the State.
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly (NSHA), during its seating on Monday (August 19, 2024) passed into second reading, A Bill for a Law to Repeal the Nasarawa State Electricity Power Agency Law, 2018 and Provide for Electricity Generation, Transmission, System Operation, Distribution and Supply in the State and for Other Matters Connected Therewith.
This Bill which is an Executive Bill, if finally passed into law, effectively enables the State Government to generate, transmit, distribute and supply electricity to various communities in the State and will address issues of power supply.
Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, the Speaker of the House while announcing the passage of the bill into second reading during the House proceedings today (August 19, 2024) in Lafia, said that the bill if finally passed would boost power supply thereby ending poor electricity supply in the State.
The Speaker also said the bill if passed would also generate jobs and increase the revenue base of the State.
The Speaker committed the bill to the House Committee on Works and Transport to work on it and report back to the House on 2nd September, 2024.
In their contributions, Hon. Solomon Akwashiki, Hon. Musa Abubakar Ibrahim, Barr. Esson Mairiga, Hon. Larry Ven Bawa, Hon. Mohammed Garba Isimbabi and Hon. Muhammad Adamu Oyanki, the Deputy Speaker of the House supported the bill to scale second reading.
They said that the bill would provide lasting solution to the issue of poor power supply in the State.
Earlier, Hon. Suleiman Yakubu Azara, the Majority Leader of the House moved a motion for the bill to pass second reading.
Hon Luka Iliya Zhekaba, the Minority Leader seconded the motion.
The House unanimously passed the bill into second reading.
In a related development, the House, has passed into law, A Bill for a Law to Make Provisions for Right of Way in Nasarawa State and for Other Matters Connected Thereto.
Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, the Speaker of the House announced the passage of the bill into third reading during the House proceedings today in Lafia.
The Speaker said that the bill, will regulate mounting of masts and laying of optic fibres(cables) in the State.
Speaker Jatau directed the Clerk of the House to produce a clean copy of the bill for Governor Sule’s assent.

Hon. Luka Iliya Zhekaba, the Minority Leader seconded the motion.
The House unanimously passed the bill into third reading.
In another development, the House, has passed into first reading, A Bill for a Law to Prohibit Forceful Entry and Illegal Occupation of Landed Properties, Violent and Fraudulent Conducts in Relation to Landed Properties in Nasarawa State and Other Matters Connected Thereto sponsored by Hon Ibrahim Aliyu Nana (APC Keffi West)
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau announced the passage of the bill into first reading during the House proceedings today in Lafia.
Rt. Hon. Jatau slated 9th September, 2024 for the second reading of the bill.
Hon. Ibrahim Aliyu Nana, the Sponsor of the bill moved a motion for the bill to scale first reading which was seconded by Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala, the Deputy Majority Leader of the House.
The House unanimously passed the bill into first reading.
Also, the House passed into first reading A Bill for a Law to Establish Nasarawa State Inland Waterways Regulation Agency to Regulate the Carriage of Persons and Goods Across all Watters and Rivers within Nasarawa State and other Matters Connected Thereto, sponsored by Hon. Larry Ven-Bawa (APC Akwanga North) the Chief Whip of the House.
Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, the Speaker of the House announced the passage of the bill into first reading during the House proceedings today in Lafia.
The Speaker slated 2nd September, 2024 for the second reading of the bill.
Hon. Larry Ven-Bawa, moved a motion for the bill to scale first reading which was seconded by Hon. Solomon Akwashiki.
The House unanimously passed the bill into first reading.
