Eggon, Nasarawa State PDP Mourn Demise of Former ECDA Vice President
The Eggon nation and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Nasarawa State have been thrown into a mournful mood following the death of Alhaji Umar Muhammad Baligye, also known as SP Arikya Rtd.
The death occurred on the morning of Monday, April 3, 2023, at his residence, Millionaires Quarters, Bukan Sidi, Lafia, Nasarawa State.
Until his death, Alhaji Umar Muhammad Baligye was the Nasarawa State PDP Southern Zonal Acting Chairman.
During the tenure of Comrade James Ali Manza as President of the Eggon Cultural and Development Association (ECDA), Alhaji Umar Muhammad Baligye was the Vice President.

Born in 1953, Alhaji Umar Muhammad Baligye had his primary school education from 1960 to 1967. In 1973, he joined the Nigeria Police Force and rose to and retired as Superintendent of Police in 2008 after meritorious service.
While in the Police Force, he served in different capacities, and before the creation of Nasarawa State, he was the youngest Divisional Police Officer in then Plateau State.
In Nasarawa State, he served in Lafia, Doma, and other places as DPO before he retired in 2008.
After his retirement, he joined active politics and before his death, he was the PDP Zonal Chairman, Nasarawa South zone.
He was an active farmer and belonged to the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), hence, he served as the Nasarawa State Vice President of the association.
Late Alhaji Umar Muhammad Baligye held the revered traditional tile of Dangaladiman Arikya and was one of the kingmakers of Sarkin Arikya.
He died and left behind 17 children and 27 grandchildren.
He has since been buried according to Islamic rites.
