ECDA President Educates NYSC Corps Members On Cultural Norms Of Eggon People

The President of the Eggon Cultural and Development Association (ECDA), Mr. Mandy David Abuluya, has educated serving corps members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) about the cultural norms of the Eggon people of Nasarawa State.

Mr. Mandy David Abuluya took time to pass on vital information about the Eggon people to the corps members who paid him a visit as members of the Culture and Tourism CDS group of the NYSC in Akwanga Local Government Area.

Speaking to the corps members, the ECDA President told them the Eggon people are well known for their hard work, industry, integrity and friendliness to strangers.

He said: “I have been speaking with these young members of our society because they said they want to know more about the Eggon people and culture. Some of them said they want to go to Akun Eggon. I don’t know whether they can climb but we will take them to that place to go and know where the Eggon people came from.”

He promised to carry them along so they can learn more about the Eggon people since they have indicated interest.

“This is indeed the essence of the NYSC. They come from all over the country and they are expected to immerse themselves in the culture of their host communities. I think among them there are people from Akwa Ibom in the South South and from Borno in the North East and many other parts of the country.”

The ECDA President urged the corps members to ensure they acquire relevant skills during their service year as white collar job opportunities are now very scarce. He gave examples of some persons who came to Nasarawa State for youth service and ended up setting up thriving businesses after their service year.

Bassey Inyang, the President of the Culture and Tourism CDS Group while speaking to Eggonnews said, “We are here to learn more about the Eggon culture. We want to know everything about the Eggon life.

“As corpers, we need costumes. We also want to be invited to cultural festivals so we can know more about the people. We have heard about the Eggon hills and we will love to visit some of those sites. You know we cannot do all these on our own that is why we have come to him hoping he can render assistance.”
