The Nassarawa State Government has begun training for Heads of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) preparatory to the implementation of e-governance policy of the government.
The two-day training which started on Wednesday (April 12, 2023) in Lafia, was organised by the Office of the Head of Civil Service in collaboration with the Bureau for Information and Communication Technology (BICT).
Speaking at the event, Barr Abigail Waya, Acting Head of Civil Service (HOCS) said the exercise was aimed at equipping the participants with requisite knowledge for the smooth digital switch over of government activities.
“We are here today to strengthen the foundation ICT is built upon, by training and ensuring that those in charge of ICT in our MDAs understand what is expected of them and the direction the government is working towards as we move to E-Governance.
“The administration of Abdullahi Sule is committed to the digitalization of our system of work, training and re-training, towards building efficiency and a vibrant digital economy,” she added
The HOCS added that Data Processing and Protection Officers, Confidential Secretaries, Executive Officers and Directors from all the MDAs would be trained in the next phase of the exercise.
She further explained that the training is to also create more understanding and improve efficiency on ICT to enable staff to drive the process of e-governance in their respective MDAs.
Waya added that ICT is now a prerequisite for all public servants in the State in order to key into the idea of the government to go paperless in the next few months.
Also speaking, Mr Emi Kasuwa, Director Training, Grading and Pension, Office of the Head of Civil Service welcomed participants from over 40 MDAs in the State to equip them on the technical knowhow for digital switch over of government’s activities.
The Director tasked the participants to take the training seriously to justify the investment by the government and drive the process of e-governance in their respective MDAs.
Earlier, Mr Shehu Ibrahim, Director General (DG) of BITC said the training would guide heads of ICT on website creation, email usage and how to manage other social media platforms in their respective MDAs.
The DG added that the knowledge learned at the exercise should be stepdown and use to achieve e-governance in the state.
He further explained that the bureau would help to ensure that MDAs have functional website, email and other social media platforms to conduct activities digitally.
He therefore said that when the policy is fully implemented, the use of paper to would be replaced with the use of computers, phones and other digital platforms.
Responding, some beneficiaries, Azumeh Yamu from office of the Head of Service and Adamu Williams-Yakubu from Teachers Service Commission, expressed gratitude to the government for the training and promised to utilise the knowledge gained.
