COVID-19: UBA Donates 28.5M Each To PLSG, NSSG
The United Bank for Africa (UBA) has made cash donation of 28.5 Million Naira each to the Plateau State and Nasarawa State Governments.
Making the donations separately at Jos and Lafia on Monday 30th March 2020, the bank described the gesture as part of their contribution to the fight against the Coronavirus disease.

Director of Press & Public Affairs to the Governor of Plateau State, Governor Simon Bako Lalong received the donation of 28.5 Million Naira from the United Bank for Africa, through its UBA Foundation as part of their contribution to the fight against the disease.

The presentation was made on behalf of the Bank by Steve Gadzama, Regional Bank Head in Jos.
He explained that the bank has remained a partner to the Government of Plateau State and is happy with the measures taken so far to deal with the situation. He said the bank has also constructed and donated an isolation facility and incubators at the Plateau State Specialist Hospital in Jos.
Governor Lalong thanked the UBA for setting the pace in contributing to the fund. He assured that the account will be managed transparently and the money applied to critical areas including responding to the needs of the poor and people in rural areas.
He urged other corporate organisations and well meaning individuals to also donate to the fund known as PLATEAU STATE COVID-19 SUPPORT FUND. ACCOUNT NUMBER: UBA 1022751747.
Governor Lalong also said the Government welcomes other donations of facilities, medical equipment and other consumables towards building the capacity of the State to handle the situation.
In Lafia, Nasarawa State, Danjuma Salihu, Regional Head, UBA North Central, presented the donation on behalf of the bank, at a brief ceremony at the Government House.
Salihu said the bank found it necessary to support Nasarawa State in its fight against COVID-19, which is affecting the whole world.
He commended the development strides of the Governor of the state, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, stressing that the bank identified with the focus and thrust of the state government.
“We believe that Nasarawa State has been on the right course and we will continue to partner with the state.
“And our humble presentation on behalf of the UBA Foundation, is a donation of the sum of N28, 5000, 000 here presented. This is already sitting in your account waiting for your utilization. As we call on all others to contribute,” Salihu stated.
The UBA regional head however called on other spirited organizations and individuals, to also contribute towards combating the coronavirus pandemic.
Responding, Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Sule, expressed appreciation to the bank for making the contribution, stressing that there is no better time for such philanthropy than now, when the world is going into recession, including Nasarawa State.
The Governor promised to utilize the donation specifically towards the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
While noting that Nasarawa State is yet to have a confirmed case of coronavirus infection, Engineer Sule however said the state has heightened its defence mechanisms against the pandemic, particularly with the state’s proximity to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), which is presently on lockdown.
“That is why I have always called on the Federal Government to give Nasarawa a special attention.
“So for UBA to be the first to give us special attention, I will like to sincerely thank you. And I promise you, every penny of this amount given, will go for the cause that was given. I will not take one naira out of it, to do any other thing but exactly support the fight against COVID-19,” he stated.
