COVID-19: Nasarawa Govt Bans Commercial Motorcycles, Tricycles

The Nasarawa State Government has placed a ban on the operations of commercial motorcycles and tricycles commonly referred to as going and keke respectively.

The ban is part of new measures introduced by the State Government in order to stem the tide of the spread of COVID-19 and is contained in Proclamation No. 4, 2020 of the Government of Nasarawa State.

The government said the ban was necessitated by the fact that in spite of steps taken to restrict movement into and within the State, the operations of commercial motorcycles and tricycles “have continued to thwart the efforts of the Government to restrict movement of persons, especially persons entering the State from other States which have recorded cases of persons infected with the virus.”

The total lockdown of Karu Local Government Area as well as the 8pm to 6am curfew imposed on all other urban areas of the State remain.

The government also placed a restriction on the use of private motorcycles to one passenger per motorcycle in parts of the state not under total lockdown.

The new directives are to take effect from 8pm on Thursday April 23, 2020.

Also, the government urged all security personnel, government functionaries and traditional rulers to play their parts in ensuring there is full compliance.
