Christians, Muslims Come Together In Lafia To Pray For Nigeria, Nasarawa State
Christians and Muslims in Nasarawa State have come together to pray for the peace, progress and prosperity of the State, nation and leaders.
The event which took place at the YMCA hall in Bukan Sidi Lafia on Saturday July 27, 2024, had in attendance religious leaders from both the Christian and Muslim faith as well as their adherents.
In a brief sermon at the event, Apostle Iwala Joseph Iwala called for unity amongst Christians and Muslims especially in the face of the current challenges in the country.
He said: “The Christians and Muslims all go to the same market and are suffering from the same challenges. Things are very expensive now and are already getting out of the reach of the common man.
“The reason for these challenges is because we have allowed people who do not fear God to attain positions of authority so we need to return to God.”
He urged adherents of both the Christianity and Islam not to allow anyone divide them based on their religious beliefs, rather they should always follow leaders that tend towards uniting them just as the convener of the prayers has done.
On his part, Imam Abdullahi Adamu Ambana harped on the need to always pray for leaders since it was in the hands of God to give power to whom He wants.
The Imam also commended the leadership style of the Nasarawa State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule whom he described as God-sent.
Speaking to the congregation at the event, Imam Abdullahi Adamu Ambana asked: “Is there anyone here who is not enjoying peace in Nasarawa State? This is because of the leadership style of Engineer Abdullahi Sule which has united us as a people. And as we all know, peace and unity are the bedrock of any meaningful development.”
He expressed gratitude to the Governor for also embarking on projects with direct bearing on the lives of the people. He used the Ambana community as an example saying that Governor Sule has linked their community with the rest of the State through the construction of a befitting road.
There were various prayer sessions led by clerics from both faiths including Very Reverend Ogah Dickson, Prophetess Oluwasheyi Oyedeji, Imam Abdullahi Adamu Ambana and Imam Safiyanu Musa the Chief Imam Bukan Sidi Central Mosque.
They prayed for God’s wisdom upon leaders especially President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Abdullahi Sule and the Emir of Lafia, Justice Sidi Bage (Rtd). They also prayed for religious leaders, for God to give them wisdom to preach peace among their followers.
Speaking at the event, convener of the prayers, Hon. Ayuba Umbugadu appreciated all who honoured his invitation to come and pray for the nation.
He said as someone who believes in the efficacy of prayers, he thought it wise to gather leaders of the major religions practiced in Nasarawa State, especially considering the current economic challenges being faced in the country.
He expressed confidence in the ability of the President of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi Sule to steer the nation to economic prosperity in no distant time. He therefore called on the citizens to keep praying for them and supporting them to succeed.
