BREAKING: COVID-19: Despite NMA, TUC, Others Resistance Chinese Doctors Arrive Nigeria
According to reports from various media, at around 5:15pm (Nigerian time), an aircraft carrying a 15-member medical team from China landed at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
The team was flown on an aircraft operated by Air Peace and were received by the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr Zhou Pingjian and Mr Jacques Liao the Executive Director, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation.
The reports also state that senior officials of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Health amongst others were also on hand to receive the team.
This is coming despite the reservations expressed by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), the Trade Union Congress (TUC) as well as some other notable associations and individuals when the idea was first made public.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman Presidential Taskforce on the COVID-19, Mr Boss Mustapha had tried to assure Nigerians especiall the doctors that the coming of the Chinese doctors was in no way going to put their jobs at risk.
According to him, the medical team from China were going to be set up at a location in the nation’s capital and were not going to have access to patients.
