Basira Off-Season Tournament: Team Shammasu Emerges Champion.

The Lafia East Primary School was abuzz with excitement as it hosted the thrilling finale of the 2024 Basira Off-Season Tournament. Team Shammasu emerged victorious over Team Sabo in a nail-biting penalty shootout, following a 90-minute stalemate.


Both teams delivered exceptional performances, with Team Shammasu’s trio of Shammasu Mohammed, Moyi Hassan, and Abubakar relentlessly testing Team Sabo’s defense. However, Team Sabo’s seasoned defender, Pepe, proved to be an impenetrable barrier.

Despite numerous attempts, Team Shammasu struggled to break through Team Sabo’s defense. Meanwhile, Team Sabo’s Mahmuda Abdullahi came agonizingly close to scoring late in the game, but Mustapha Danjuma’s incredible save denied them the win.The match ultimately went to penalties, where Team Shammasu showcased their skills, converting 4 penalties to Team Sabo’s 3, securing their victory in the tournament.

Nasarawa State FA Chairman, Alhaji Salisu Usman Galadima, congratulated Team Shammasu on their win, praising the performances of all teams participating in this year’s edition. He hinted that next year’s event will be even more spectacular.

Team Shammasu received a cash prize of ₦200,000 for their triumph, while Team Sabo took home ₦150,000 as a consolation. The organizers also received ₦150,000 for hosting a successful event.Individual awards were presented, with Coach Balarebe named Coach of the tournament. Team Chinedu earned the title of Most Disciplined Team, while Gambo Sabo, Mahmuda Abdullahi, and Mustapha Danjuma won MVP, Top Scorer, and Best Goalkeeper awards, respectively.

Commemorative medals were presented to individuals who made significant contributions to grassroots football development in Nasarawa State. The recipients included Salisu Usman Galadima, Umar Amama, Haladu Akwashiki, Solomon Babanja, Musa Adamu, Abdul Zubairu, and Blessing David.Nasarawa State SWAN Chairman, Smah George, was among the guests who presented awards to the deserving winners, adding to the celebratory atmosphere of the event.

The tournament’s success was a testament to the growing talent and dedication to grassroots football in Nasarawa State, leaving fans eagerly anticipating next year’s edition.
