7th Nasarawa Assembly: Danladi Jatau Declares Interest To Contest For Speaker
Member representing Kokona West at the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Hon. Danladi Jatau has declared his interest to contest for the Speaker of the seventh assembly of the House.
Hon. Jatau who recently won his re-election bid, made his interest known in an interview with newsmen on Wednesday (May 17, 2023) in Lafia.
According to the legislator, he has decided to indicate interest because he is imminently qualified for the position and had garnered the required experience to lead the house.
The member explained that he started his leadership as an elected Councilor of Bassa Ward, two times (1997 and (1999), where he served as Speaker of Kokona Legislative arm and also the pioneer Chairman of Agwada Development Area.
“Having served at those offices, I was elected to the House of Assembly in 2011-2015, 2019-2023 and now got another mandate to serve to 2027.
“If I have not impacted in the lives of my people and constituents, they would not have given me the opportunity to represent them at these levels,” he added.
On why he is contesting for the speaker, Hon. Jatau promised to carry every member along and bring his world of experience to bear in piloting the affairs of the assembly.
He added that the House is an assembly of equals, where they elect one among themselves to preside over their activities.
“I will also ensure improved mutual relationship betweenp us in the house as members and between us and the executive and judiciary for the benefits of the State.
“The House under me will ensure the enactment of quality laws that will address the challenges confronting the state and improve the lives of the citizens,” Mr. Jatau added.
Jatau also lauded the outgoing Speaker of the sixth assembly, Rt. Hon. Balarabe Abdullahi and all former Speakers for their contributions in coordinating the affairs of the House and promised to build from where they stopped for optimal performance.
He added that he has facilitated the employment of over 30 graduates into different Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government from his constituency in the last four years.
The member explained that he distributed motorcycles, vehicles and other forms of empowerment to more than 1, 000 youths and women in his constituency.
The aspirant therefore appealed to members across party lines to vote for him to replace the current speaker who is serving his second term as speaker of the assembly.
